Hi I need help adding a new number to my account as a pre paid. There is no account settings???

No. You need to contact a consultant by sending a message using the My Telstra app on your mobile.  They will be able to add it to your account. 

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

I tried that and got told I have to go in store. This would be my 3rd trip 1.5hr return each time as they keep stuffing things up.

I don't think the store can help with that. You'd better call them before you go in.
