Not able to link Mytelstra account number with Telstra ID for app login

Hello everyone! A longish post this so bear with me please Smiley Happy

I use a Telstra prepaid sim in Sydney. I have been trying to log into the Telstra app to manage recharge and address my support queries.

I am able to sign in with my Telstra ID username but the second step to actually log in, where the ID is to be linked to Telstra account number fails with errors on the web and app interfaces.

the second step entails entering the given and family name, and Telstra account/phone number and the error says that the information is incorrect, when I enter either the 10 digit mobile or Telstra account#. I am pretty sure about the Telstra account number as I got it using the USSD option *150#.

Hence the Telstra message options don’t work for me, nor does the Telstra phone line (now with only interactive voice) help. Telstra stores are at a distance from where I am and I am avoiding travel to the city due to COVID situation.
