What is a supported Android device for Android Market? (T-Touch Tab)

After enquiring about why I couldn't get Angry Birds to download/install on the Telstra T-Touch Tab (with shiny new 2.2.2 ROM), Android Market Support said that neither the Huawei S7 or Telstra T-Touch Tab are supported Android devices for use with the Android Market.

I assume he's wrong, right?

Hi,

Thanks for writing back. The Telstra T-Touch tablet is still an unsupported device for use with the Android Market. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

After performing an update with an unsupported device, it is unpredictable how Android Market will perform. So although you may have been able to get the Angry Bird apps before, That may no longer be the case.

Now although I can not name any specifically, the Angry Birds apps may be available to you through another third party app market.

Manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices. For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit:

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know, and I would be happy to help. Thank you for your time, I hope you have an awesome day

Regards,

xxx
The Android Market Team

Fancy seeing you here, smadge. I imagine that if "xxx" on the Android team is willing to come out and say it's unsupported, (s)he's probably right. You might have to find your bird-love elsewhere?

I too am having issues installing apps to my T-Touch tab since the Android upgrade. (See my other post in Tablets forum). I have been in contact with Android Market Help. Nobody said anything to me, about compatibility. Besides, when I log into the Market via the web browser, and attempt to download an app, the Market there recognises my Telstra T-Touch tablet as a compatible Huawei S7 with Android 2.2.2. So surely that should not be a problem in your case either? I think our problems are related. Good luck with it all.

Well, the other clue that I don't think this individual was on the ball, is that Telstra have implented the Carrier button in the Market App, which I've seen Telstra folk posting about in other areas of this forum.

it's not likely they'd release an Android device with this functionality if it wasn't a compatible device.

That's strange. I've got all three versions of Angry Birds on mine and they work flawlessly. Just make sure you have enough space free on the tablet and also try to move as many apps to the sd card as possible (which is working for me) Smiley Happy

meh, I found out tonight that I could install and use the Amazon App Store, so I did, and used that to download and install the angry birds apps.  thought, it has a hard-wired limit of 20MB downloads on 3G, you have to switch WiFi on to complete the download.

Re: What is a supported Android device for Android Market? (T-Touch Tab)

Having done the upgrade to Android 2.2.2 and then subsequently not having been able to install a large number of apps, it turned out that the ultimate fix for my problem was to perform a "factory reset". Thanks to The Android Market Team for this advice.

Performing a factory reset meant apps and their data were uninstalled and my contacts were wiped, so I made sure I backed up or synced my contacts first. The "factory reset" reverted my T-Touch Tablet to the fresh Android 2.2.2 install (which I had upgraded to previously). After this, I had to reinstall/configure all my purchased/free apps again.

I did this:

(1) Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Privacy
(2) Clicked "Factory data reset"
(3) Clicked "Reset tablet"

Now, it all works fine for me and I am really pleased with Android 2.2.2 on my T-Touch Tab. The portable WiFi hotspot is great!

Hope this helps someone. I provide this info in good faith and will not be held responsible for any data loss or other consequences of trying to emulate my fix Smiley Happy
