Telstra created Telstra Air app so they could then LIE to customers.

Telstra are such bullcrap ripoff merchants they state that you have to download and use the Telstra Air App to be able to connect to Telstra Air hotspots when all one need do is open up the available wi-fi hotspots, selects the applicable Telstra Air hotspot and then simply enter in their Telstra username and password credentials. So they have lied to a million customers who have followed their instructions to download the Telstra Air App and also use a part of their broadband allowance to create the local hotspot on their router. No one had to open up any hotspot on their routers but then without Telstra's lie they definitely would not have been able to create the biggest wi-fi network in Australia because most internet savvy users would say, "Nah **bleep** that I'll just use my login details to login to a Telstra Air hotspot from users who do agree with sacrificing speed briquettes to create one of earths slowest wi-fi networks." More than words Telstra, it's why we do what we do. Build a connected future so that everyone can thrive.

Where do Telstra “state that you have to download and use the Telstra Air App to be able to connect to Telstra Air hotspots”?.

Plus Home Broadband connections are no longer used as part of the Telstra Air network. It is limited to the Pink topped payphone network now.

It's a bit ironic that someone wanting to use virtually free internet, then calls Telstra  'bullcrap ripoff merchants'...  just saying  🙂
