5g mobile on 4g plan

We are travelling and often not in any mobile reception area, let alone 5G. If I need to buy a new phone but not ready to upgrade to a 5G plan, can I keep my existing 4G plan?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: 5g mobile on 4g plan

If you are buying a phone outright, then the plan that you are on is irrelevant.

If you wish to pay it off over 12-36 months, then you will be moved onto a current offering (if M or above it comes with 5G access).

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Re: 5g mobile on 4g plan

If you get a 5G device, and a plan that includes 5G, that doesn't mean it will only work on 5G..  it will fall back to 4G or even to 3G depending on what service is available..  most devices can also be set to use a specific band if that is what you want to do.. and even then, if the band isn't available, it will fall back to one that is..  in most cases it is easier to let the phone decide for itself which band is best at a location..
