Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

Help. I have a couple of email accounts which are auto forwarded or redirected to my BigPond email address. Had no problems for the last year or more but they are being blocked as of this Wednesday. I set up a GMail account and redirected the emails to that. Works fine but when I set up an auto forwarder to my Big Pond email to see what happened, I received this back... There was a problem delivering your message. See the technical details below...

The response from the remote server was:

558 5.7.1 5FE6CCD5192AEB1C Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB704x

When I talked to Telstra yesterday, the support dude said that they don't have an external spam filter. Go figure.

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

Yes. I've tried that but heard nothing back. Ended up calling and talking to someone called 'Ernie' who did his best to prove to me how clever he was and how stupid I was. He was quite adamant that Telstra didn't have any overall 'spam' software so I gave up at that point. Had to get work done. I have a workaround using GMail or my website 'Webmail' platform but that's only in the short term.

That's disappointing to hear @BBNoosa. Not the experience we want for you at all.

You've not receive any notifications in regard to your email being identified as spam?

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

They're not necessarily my emails. They are emails that are auto forwarded/redirected to my Big Pond email address from Site Ground, my web hosting provider.

But no, I haven't had any notification from Telstra.

Maybe Site Ground has been identified as a suspected scam. Have you spoken with them about the matter?

Yes. And I did a spam search/test on them. They are clear.

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

I would have thought that you could check to see if Telstra has identified anything from Site Ground as being spam.

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

Alrighty. That's really odd.

You also mentioned it's been going on for a year or so. Is that right?

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

I set up a GMail account. The redirected emails from Site Ground come through to that without any problem.

Interesting. Very likely different settings, however, that doesn't warrant the consultant behaving the way they did. I do apologise.

My apologies. If you are still experiencing the problem next week, let us know. I'm curious to see if anything is going on that has not yet been reported as such.

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

Ha ha. So that's it? Let us know if you still have a problem next week? That's your tech support? I thought at the very least you could establish (in your records) if Site Ground is on a spam list. As far as I can tell, they aren't.

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

Hi Renee. I looked into this further and it appears that Telstra have black listed one of the Site Ground sending IP's for some reason. Apparently this is currently being resolved between them at the moment. Hopefully it won't take too long.

Re: Auto forwarded emails rejected as spam

No worries, thank you for getting back to me BBNoosa, it makes sense there was some kind of blacklisting, however, sometimes it does take some digging.

I appreciate your efforts and the update. Fingers crossed it is sorted asap Smiley Happy
