Is there anyway to have existing mailboxes moved to the new system.

AFAIK, there is a plan to move customers to the new system, but no details as yet. Its not something you can request at this time.

Dear All,

Obviously TLS will want to migrate everyone eventually. If we ask nicely maybe they may like some 'volunteers' to go early to test the process, etc. ?

What say ye Telstra ?

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

I am a Bigpond existing customer and for the last week I have not been able to send/receive emails through my Incredimail program. I keep getting an error message - "invalid username or password". Incredimail have told me that if my mailbox won't work in Windows Live Mail then it won't work in Incredimail either. When I have spoken with Bigpond technical support, they tell me that the problem is with Incredimail and to add insult to injury, I was then told that I have another option and that I could be put through to something called Telstra Plus which works on a no fix no pay basis, so if they manage to fix the problem, I will be charged on my next bill!!. I was gobsmacked to say the least, what a nerve Telstra has when the problem is not my fault. This problem started happening out of the blue during that huge outage on 23rd Feb, and I just can't seem to find anyone to help me with it. I know my username and password are ok as I can access my webmail ok, but when I try to access my mail in Incredimail, it keeps trying to authorize and connect and then the error message pops up. It is becoming quite tedious after a week.

Cheers,

Nomad

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Personal opinion:

Incredimail is the worst email program ever..

I've dealt with it for many users in the past.

For starters, it doesn't support the same protocols as standard email programs, and doesn't allow you to migrate messages OUT of Incredimail.  You are locked in.

Try this, use a standard email program on your PC (windows livefor instance, or even outlook express). If it works, then your problem is incredimail, as I suspect it will be.

You can't blame Telstra or Microsoft for the behaviour of  the only email program on the internet that does things differently than the standards.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

How can I use Widows Live Mail when it does not support existing bigpond customers' mailboxes yet?. It only  supports new customers. Existing customers mailboxes won't be updated until sometime in 2012.

I have used Incredimail for over ten years now and have had no problems so far. I have had no problems migrating messages out and I certainly have never been locked in. There may have been some minor glitches over the years but they have always been solved. I have tried other mail programs and I get a message saying that bigpond's server says my username and password is incorrect. As I said before, this problem started when that huge outage occured on Feb 23rd. I did not have this problem before.

I am not into bagging other programs, I just want help to get this problem fixed.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Windows Live Mail is an application that runs on XP, Windows 7 and Vista.

It is completely independant of the migration of Bigpond accounts.

Confusing, to some, I know.

It's part of a suite of programs that you get for free from Microsoft, called Windows Live Essentials.

Perhaps I should have said Windows Mail. It supports all POP3 and IMAP protocols.

As for being able to migrate messages, I doubt that in the extreme.  Incredimail does not support migration to other mail applications, and you also cannot migrate your contacts from Incredimail.

What other mail application have you tried, and what settings did you use?

It's unlikely, but not impossible that your account has somehow become corrupt in whatever outage there was.  If you have tried, Outlook, or Outlook Express and got errors on your password or whatever,  try these steps:

Download SMPTDiag from Microsoft and juse it for basoc testing.

Also, if you can use Telnet, you can quickly figure out any errors for yourself.

I know it's a pain, but you cannprove to yourself if there is an issue at you end or not.

I'm not going to type out the instructions, but you can get them here Troubleshoot email

Sorry, but it's probably best you try this, if, as you say, no email program can access your POP3 account.

If you can successfully send email via Telnet, then the problem is the application. If not, then you will have eliminated that at least, and you can escalate.

Also, do you have an alternate PC to try a different email application from?

Let us know how you go, and I'll see if I can give you some tips.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

When I checked my email on Monday it miraculously had started working again. My husband was experiencing the same problem on his PC also and his was ok on Monday morning also.

I still feel that this was a Bigpond problem.

Thanks for your suggestions but fortunately, I didn't need to use them.

Also, I had no problems exporting my contacts from Incredimail to Thunderbird and Opera mail programs. I still prefer Incredimail, it has heaps of great features.

Hi midcoast1,

If you send me a private message with your email address and a contact number I will look into the problem that you are having.

AFAIK, the issue we had a few weeks ago with sending emails have been resolved so we need to take a look at your service and how it is setup in Windows Mail.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Another computer granny here - but thought I was going OK where my computer was concerned!!!  WHEW!!!  I'm so glad to find this thread.  I'm a new Bigpond customer of 15dyas and just about beside myself.  Because of my situation I need to have a few email addresses which I set up fine through Bigpond and  thought all would be well, as I already had a Windows Live Account.  WRONG!!!!  Like other posters, I can receive emails OK in Windows Live, but cannot send them,  This means I have to sign in to Webmail to answer my many emails from 3 different email addresses - most time consuming when I was hoping to be able to do it all through Windows Live as I was happily doing with my previous Server for ages.

I have made 2 phone calls to Technical Support - both lasting well over an hour. The fist person I spoke to (in the Phillipines and very pleasant) tried every which way to set up my accounts remotely and said they were all find except for one account, and they were - for one day.  She also told me it could be my modem - but I dismissed this as my modem was working quite well.  Lasy night Wed) was my second phone call, and the person (again from the Phillipines and very pleasant) I spoke to after trying to get remote access to work for about 1/2  hour said he checked with his supervisor and said Remote Access wasn't working, so he tried for ages to walk me through various steps which all proved fruitless - tried sending about 10 emails to myself without any luck!!  A specialist techincal person was supposed to ring me around 1pm on my mobile today - I'm still waiting for the call. I also had a call concerning an unrelted matter, from  "Frontline"((think that was the term) in Melbourne, 3 days ago who also was getting somebody else to contact me when I told her of the problems I was having,Still waiting fo rthat call also.

Has anybody got any clues if Windows Live is working yet.  I have nothing against talking to people from the Phillipines, but do find some difficult to understand, and after my 2 conversations, am wondering if they are given enough training to be Techincal Support officers. I can't face ringing again but don't know when if ever I'll get a call from a specialist.

Tonight I have attempted to get the emails I most want to use forwarded to gmail, so seeing if this will work - at least I can send emails from there if it does.  Any other ideas most welcome - must be reasonably understood by a granny!!!

Sorry for any typos - this granny is tired and off to bed.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Hi DanK (wonder if I'm old enough to be your granny LOL!!!),

Sorry I didn't get back to you today - was busy doing things around the house and answering emails.

I think I have got the proplem with sending solved myself by changing the settings in Windows Live - the 2 people I spoke to at Telstra gave me a "bum steer" (hope you can say that on here) Smiley Surprised I will be back quickly if I find it's not working.

Windows Live keeps asking me for my passwords for my email accounts and when I put them in - tells me eventually that they are wrong.  Don't know ho wto fix that.

My other problem is I've used Mozilla Firefox for ages but can't open any emails in Bigpond - only if I use Internet Explorer.  I did try a couple of suggestions I read recently but didn't work.

I'll look tomorrow to see of there are any answers here tomorrow - wish things were simple for us seniors!!!!  Although quite proud of myself being able to change settings and send emails from Windows Live - did better that the technical support people from Telstra - especially the one who told me I needed a new modem!!!

Thanks once again for your reply to my problem which I really appreciated.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Hi. I have recently been changed over to the new Windows Live format. Previous to this, I was set up in my HotMail account to have my bigpond email address added to my hotmail account so that I could also read my bigpond emails at my Hotmail account. I can no longer set this up. Has there been some change to my bigpond account to stop this?

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Hi stevann, welcome to the forum.

I have asked our resident email experts and they have advised me that you will need to remove your email from Hotmail and set it up again.

The reason for this is because associating BigPond Emails via Windows Live can now be done by setting it up as a linked account;

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Hi Wanglese,

I too am having the same problem as Nomad. I'm away from my home computer at the moment and Incredimail was working when I left home 3 days ago but at the moment I'm on my laptop and it's not working - in fact I can't get any email program (Bigpond Webmail, Windows Live, Winmail, Incredimail) to recognise my bigpond.com address which I've been using for 12 years as my business and private email address but I can use a secondary private bigpond.com address in Incredimail. A few months ago I had to log into MyPond using my bigpond.net.au address and to access my Webmail I could use my bigpond.com address but not now. I have even bought  a Microsft Office Outlook 2007 disc but haven't installed it until my email address problem is fixed. Why can't i just have my olf bigpond.com address back? This is all becoming very frustrating especially from a business angle. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

The only way I could get it to work was by un-checking (log on using secure password authentication) and checking (log on using clear text authentication).

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Honestly Telstra is the WORST internet provider in the nation, why any sane individual would want to willingly use a Telstra service is beyond me.

I recently switched from Exetel (a Telstra reseller) with zero problems, to Telstra as I am sharing and they already had a BigPond service Smiley Sad  and of course nothing but problems.  Can't even use my own website email server, pathetic.

Clearly Telstra management has no concern for their customers whatsoever, they just create their policies to suit them and damn anyone else.  Obviously gave no thought whatsoever to the issue of sharing an internet connection where the owner does not want their login details to be shared with others.  Does Telstra care?  Nope, it's an idiotic company run by idiots who dont care jack about their customer base.

How come a reseller can get it right but Telstra cannot?  I can only assume that Telstra is run by a bunch of technically challenged morons.

Good Evening All

I have just transitioned over to Telstra Bigpond via another carrier. Have full internet access, though require assistance with getting my new bigpond email address onto MS Outlook 2010.

I have followed the steps as per instructions below via the Telstra bigpond website with no avail.

Username: enter your full BigPond email address
Password: enter your BigPond account password

  • Incoming POP server: pop3.live.com
  • Incoming POP server port: 995
  • Incoming uses SSL: On (this is required)

  • Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.live.com
  • Outgoing SMTP server port: 587 (with TLS (preferred) or SSL Encryption, depending on your e mail app)
  • Outgoing uses SSL: On (this is required)
  • Authentication Outgoing server (SMTP) authentication: Same as incoming mail server

Further, I need to retain my historical emails.

As you are on the new platform hosted by Outlook.com you can also access your emails via IMAP instead of POP.

Are you able to log into your mailbox via the BigPond or Outlook.com websites?

Are you accessing the email via webmail or using an email program? As this is a newly created mailbox it will be on the Outlook.com platform and you can find the settings here: http://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/email-settings

(note: at the time of posting the outgoing mail server for POP on the Outlook.com is incorrect and should read pop-mail.outlook.com)

Hi ShellB,

Can you confirm if you are trying to configure a Microsoft Exchange account or a BigPond mailbox? These are two very different things.

If you aren't certain, Microsoft Exchange is typically used for large businesses and not home use and you would contact your works IT group for the assistance in configuring this service.

If you are trying to set up a standard POP or IMAP mail account, then you will need to reinstall your Outlook program or use an alternate email program.

You can find the settings to configure a BigPond mailbox here:

Hi,

I am an existing bigpond account holder and today I set up an additional mailbox for my daughter.

I also set her password to be the same as mine.

However when I try to log her on to web mail bigpond does not recognise the user or password.

Do I need to wait overnight before her email is active or should I be able to log on straight away?

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

HI all, seems to be a good place to start for a novice poster;

Cannot send emails.  recives emails ok, but cannot reply or forward.  Emails go straight to Outbox and stay there.

Have checked knowledge base.  Have stuffed around with settings found on the website. All to no avail.  I'm apparently not affected by the transsition to microsoft yet.

Windows 8.1, Outlook 2007 SP3.  Worked fine 10 days ago but have been having problem ever since.

Webmail works fine.  Mobile Phone acccess to emails works fine

This is the error message I get when in Tools/Account settings/email/(highlight account)/test account settings;

Send test e-mail message: Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).  The server responded: 554 nschwcmgw07p BigPond Outbound [OB105. Connection r

Would appreciate a fix from anyone who has one.

Thanks Ian

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Hi Lame2,

As this works fine on other devices, we know that this is going to be something specifically to do with this particular computer and/or the settings that have been configured.

Account Type: POP

Incoming Server: mail.bigpond.com

Security Encryption: SSL

Port: 995

Outgoing Server: mail.bigpond.com

Security Encyption: SSL or Auto
Port: 465

Authentication Required: Yes, same as incoming.

Can you confirm that your settings match?

If they are correct, and assuming that you have no difficulties accessing the internet on your Windows 8.1 computer, I would then suggest checking the email settings on your Internet Security software.

Re: BigPond Email - Your First Steps

Shelly,

I have checked the email settings and all corrrect.  I cannot send emails, they remain in Outbox.

I checked what I could of the Norton product, nothing really stood out to me as incorrect and then I turned it all off.  I could not send emails (they remain in Outbox).

Latest error message is

Send test e-mail message: Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).  The server responded: 554 nskntcmgw08p BigPond Outbound [OB105. Connection r

Any other thoughts?

Ian
