Can’t receive mail on ipad. Now can’t set up mail on iPad

I have my ipad and iPhone set up for imap. My desktop (windows outlook) remains pop. All working perfectly for 18mths.

1. Last month mail delivery to ipad and iPhone intermittent - error message imap.Telstra.com is not responding. 

2. Reinstalled my bigpond.net.au account (as recommended) on ipad. Worked for a few days only.

3. Tried to reinstalled again and now get error message cannot connect using SSL

4. Tried to set up ipad as POP. Error message SMPT server mail.bigpond.com is not responding. 

5. Phone call to Telstra tech help yielded (after 40 min) the unhelpful reply that it is an issue we are aware of and the back of house team are working on it. No time frame available. 

6. My ipad is my primary access and rarely use the desktop. I can access webmail, but hate that i get booted off after about 10 min.

7. Last few days iPhone is working well, despite not taking any action on it.

8. Ipad is gen 8 and up to date OS. iPhone is S6 and also up to date. I have also reinstalled the apple mail app with no improvement.

Can someone help with a fix in the meantime? Thanks

Change your bigpond email password. delete the email account in your ipad. Test that you can access webmail with your new password. Then add email account to ipad using new password.

Yes I tried turning it off and on again. 
I have changed my bigpond email account password and can send and receive using webmail. 
I have set up mail on ipad for a pop acct and again get error message that cannot connect using ssl

Set up as pop and get error mail.bigpond is not responding.

 

So basically still no working. Any other ideas? Thanks.

The email client you are using might allow you to extend the server timeout period..  Outlook does that...

Too many devices, probably an addict :-) also a tinkerer and developer of stuff..
Not with Telstra, just another customer like you!

Well have you tried the following email setup settings...

 

 

POP settings

Account type:

  • Account type: POP3

Incoming server details:

 

  • Incoming server address: pop.telstra.com
  • Incoming server port: 995
  • Encrypted connection: SSL

Outgoing server details:

  • Outgoing server address: smtp.telstra.com
  • Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended) or 587
  • Authentication: Yes
  • Encrypted connection: SSL/TLS on port 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on port 587

Username & Password:

 

  • User name: Your Telstra email address - ending in ‘@bigpond.com’, ‘@bigpond.net.au’ or ‘@telstra.com.’
  • Password: Your Telstra email account password – REMEMBER it’s case sensitive.

Still doesn’t work. I will investigate increasing the time for connection.
