correct user / login rejected yet webmail works

Answered

All

Issue has me frustrated.

Bigpond mail account working fine, now user/login works without issue on webmail but is rejected when used with Outlook 2013.

  • Not settings- Telstra tech have checked settings and confirm ok
  • Not Oulook issue- 2 other bigpond accounts (on same platform Outlook.com) working just fine.
  • Not Outlook Profile- account set up on completley different machine experience same authorisation reject.

Solutions tried:

  • POP is enabled in Outlook.com
  • 2 Stage verification is off
  • Virus scan is off
  • SFC /scannow - no issues
  • Cleaned webmail inbox nothing 'stuck''
  • Password has been reset by Telstra tech, new temp password doesnt work.

Info

Test send messages appear in webmail inbox.

System - Win 10 /  Outlook 2013

Telstra have spent 4 hours cycling through settings to no avail.

Any suggestions ?

Re: correct user / login rejected yet webmail works

Hello CW

In previous versions of Outlook, you had to download and install Microsoft Outlook Connector, but is inbuilt into 2013.

It is possible there is some corruption in that profile or Outlook Connector.

You could delete the account in Outlook, reboot your computer and set up again, which has worked for me previously.

If that doesn't work, you can try to do a fresh download and install of Outlook Connector.

I can't think of anything else at this moment.  Thank you

Re: correct user / login rejected yet webmail works

Thanks for the quick reply.

Whilst I will try reinstalling the connector it is not likel to be the solution as:

  1. Two ther accounts connect just fine using Outlook
  2. A completely different PC has the same authorisation issues

At this stage I am happy to try anything.

Re: correct user / login rejected yet webmail works

No Solution

New Outlook Profile has same issues, succesfully created two new accounts, third account (the one with issues) had same problem server rejected login.

Downloaded Outlook connector  and installed, no change to problem.

any further suggestions ?

Thanks CW for the Kudos.

Good luck in resolving this.

Hopefully you will receive some further advice, as all we want is to have your problem resolved. Unfortunately I  do not have Outlook 2013 in front of me.   Kind regards

Re: correct user / login rejected yet webmail works

Hi CW_1,

Have you tried configuring a different mail program with this mailbox, just for testing purposes?

If you encounter the same error while using EXACTLY the same settings as the other two BigPond mailboxes on Outlook.com then we can eliminate this as an issue.

As you can use it to log into Outlook.com I suspect it may be a misalignment on the account. Have you tried resetting your email password via My BigPond?

Let me know how you go.

Re: correct user / login rejected yet webmail works

Hi Shelly

I have set up the account in Outlook 2013 on different PC and get the same error.

I have tried Mail (Win10) it reports 'Bigpond settings are out of date'

Password has been reset via MyBigpond

I cannot login directly to Outlook.com with this account (but can with the other accounts) and have raised a support query with Microsoft login error is blocked account.

Strange. And this account is definitely hosted on Outlook.com?

You can confirm this by logging into: http://www.telstra.com/emailservercheck

Have you contacted Tech Support on 133 933 or via Live Chat using http://tel.st/gq6m so that this can be investigated further?

Thanks for that reference number.

I can see that this has been escalated through to the appropriate team. The turn around time will vary depending on the complexity of the issue and the workload of the team doing the fix.
