Email Pop Account has 6000 message which will not download

Email Pop Account has 6000 message which will not download - this happened today about 4pm EST and outlook times out - so does webmail if I want to see what is in there. I tried contacting by phone but got chucked out. We have just re-signed up for platinum service but what a waste of money if this is going to happen. I rebooted the NBN modem but to no avail - emails send out ok
