I am unable to send mail using mac mail with my bigpond.com email address

I have had this bigpond.com account for 20 years or so and now can'r send mail. I am using mac mail and have updated to OS X 10.13.4. I can receive mail OK and it is setup as a pop account. Do you have any fixes for this? Thanks, Michelle

What outgoing settings are you using? Are you getting any error messages?

Make sure the outgoing settings match the ones listed here: https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/email/set-up/recommended-email-settings-for-telstra-mail

@bwg01 That issue would be coming from Spark unfortunately. There's no guarantee's that other providers won't block SMTP outbound on their network's nationally or internationally. If you were originally using port 25 with no authentication it could of definitely flagged it. Webmail tends to always work fine no matter what as it is browser based, not client based

@michellej changing from POP to IMAP would mean removing and re-adding the account. Mail clients don't allow a protocol change on an existing account. All you wanted to make sure of is if the outgoing settings matched. If you are looking to change to IMAP, i'd recommend backing up your POP mailbox first.

Macmail also always has had trouble when it comes to changing the outgoing settings and it may make take several attempts before the settings stick

My wife has exactly the same problem. We are visiting NZ and using WiFi on a Spark network, but still using telstra mail. Webmail works fine but the Mac Mail receives ok, but will not send. Just sits in outbox. Have tried resetting the server details as per recommendations, but no good. Says cannot validate account. Seems that somewhere there is some vetting that is rejecting the account.

Thank you, I have just reset my password and installed a new IMAP account. This now seems to be working perfectly. I have just added this to my existing account so have not lost anything. All good Smiley Happy
