Outlook 2007 - IMAP and POP inboxes different email content for same email address

Answered

Outlook 2007

Windows 7

I have had my bigpond.com email address setup on Outlook 2007 for several years now using POP settings. Stumbled across a Telstra help article about Telstra Mail which uses IMAP.

As a test, I added a new email account for the same email address to Outlook 2007 using IMAP settings. However, the emails that appear in the POP inbox (several hundred dating back several months) do not appear in the IMAP inbox.

I have been searching for answering for this discrepancy but have not yet been able to identify the reason. Multiple calls to the Telstra Broadband, NBN, and NBN technical consultants have delivered the solution "Hire an Outlook specialist to fix your issue." However, when I log into my Webmail, none of the emails in my POP inbox appear in the Webmail inbox. I can send test emails to the email address and they remain in the Webmail inbox briefly before being purged completely from the inbox and trash folders.

To me, the issue seems big than an Outlook issue but I am for any troubleshooting suggestions as this situation is really frustrating.

Thanks

Tim

Re: Outlook 2007 - IMAP and POP inboxes different email content for same email address

Hello Tim

I too still use Outlook 2007, but only with POP.

As it's ten years old, it's critical that you keep all the updates current.

I also have found that Outlook 2007 has issues with IMAP, and you may be wise to remain on POP

If you do require IMAP, you may consider Thunderbird, which is primarily IMAP and free.

The issues you are experiencing, would not be covered be ISP support.

As updates for Outlook 2007 are about to cease, you may consider purchasing a newer version of Office

Thank you

If I have helped you, a "Like" would be appreciated.

If my advice is a solution, please acknowledge it.

Re: Outlook 2007 - IMAP and POP inboxes different email content for same email address

The POP account has probably been configured to delete emails from the server which means the IMAP account wont pick them up

Also note that in outlook 2007 and earlier, IMAP is not completely compatible

Thanks Yastiandrie for the tip about the POP and IMAP accounts clashing. I will make the changes suggested in the link.
