I have the Telstra T-Voice 503 handset, on incoming calls the message 'Silence' appears.

Then what happens is the caller can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I've changed auto answer to off then on - still the same issue. I've done a handset setback & same with the Base - still the same issue. I'm thinking that I may have to do a factory default on the Gateway modem then pair the handset again, although I on't know if that'd work. Perhaps I should just go out & buy another handset.

cheers

The only time "silence" is referenced in the manual is when there is an internal call. Do you have a second handset?

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

G'day, Came across that, but we just have the single handset. Wonder if I should unpair then pair again?

@blowjo It couldn't hurt doing a factory reset on the modem then re-pair.

What is the model of your modem?

I'll ping one of our modem guru's who is working on the firmware as this *may* be a fault on that side of things. I don't follow with what is going wrong with everything that is happening with the smart modems I'm afraid. @Yastiandrie

It's not widespread issue.

I'd say go for the modem reset and re-pair as well

Hi, Thanks for that. I've unpaired then re-paired still the same result. I'll try a modem reset later today & see what happens. Will advise outcome.

Re: I have the Telstra T-Voice 503 handset, on incoming calls the message 'Silence' appears.

Hi - I think that maybe all is OK with your configuration and handset, just a nuance of the phone's operating functions. To test, instead of placing the phone to your ear, can you answer the call and then tap the Green [Pick Up/Speaker] Key again to put the caller into handsfree mode to see if both way speech occurs.

On my Arcadyan version of the Telstra Modem's Telephony/Devices Screen, it shows the Modem's Phone Port as Phone 1 and the T-Voice 503 as Handset 1. If you have a wired phone connected to the modem and the T-Voice 503 paired to the DECT Base, the modem effectively rings both in parallel allowing you to answer the call from either location. An Incoming external call presents its Calling Line ID to the T-Voice screen and the [Left Softkey] shows 'Silence' - this is because the software is treating the paralleled section of the call as an Internal connection between the DECT Base and the T-V 503 - like an Intercom call. I assume it would also do this if you had no wired phone connected to the Modem Phone Port as well.

If you have activated the T-V 503 Auto Answer or turned it OFF and answered the call with the Green [Pick Up/Speaker] key, upon connection to the incoming caller, the 'Silence' on the screen changes to [Left Softkey] 'Options' and [Right Softkey] 'Mute'. It is possible to easily and unknowingly activate the either Softkeys by holding the phone too close to your ear or head thereby activating the initial 'Silence' function from Auto Answer Mode or 'Mute' function from a Manual Answer Mode. On an Intercom call, the 'Silence' function effectively stops the ring tone and places the caller on hold and cuts out the microphone. You can reengage the caller by pressing the Green [Pick Up/Speaker] key.

I have been using the T-Voice 503 for two weeks - it is an impressive phone.
