Telstra TV displaying incorrect time

My Telstra TV 4700TL is displaying DST for QLD when QLD does not observe DST. I’ve tried to reset my Telstra box and restarted but no change I cannot manually change the time only the time zone

10.0.3 6072 has been deployed to TTV2 and TTV3 devices to resolve this issue.

Devices check for updates automatically every day.

The firmware can be updated manually from System settings.

I am also in QLD and have this same issue. Have tried resetting the box, turning the modem off and back on, resetting the network connection, manually setting the time which is not even really an option because you can still only select the time zone not manually adjust the time... please can someone get this fixed. In all our years owning this box it's never been a problem before so something has changed in the past 12 months for this to now be an issue.

While you are at it how about solving the problem where all of a sudden all three of my Roku boxes have decided to revert to Closed Captions always on. Reset it to off in settings and next time I turn the TV on it reverts back to always on. Happened at the same time as the daylight saving time issue. As a software developer I find this lack of testing appalling.

This issue puzzles me, I have 2 x TTV3, 1x TTV2 and 1 by TTV1..  I am in Qld and they all show the correct Qld time..

 

The difference for me maybe, is that all my TTV's are connected to the modem by ethernet cable (some via switches) and the modem time is also correct and set to Qld.  Don't know if that helps at all?

Do the TTV2 and 3 devices have aerials connected?

Assuming not, does the time go wrong if you do connect an aerial?

I also have this problem...  3 times in 2 days I have had to turn closed captioning off. 😔

Lucky me. I have both issues. Can't change time to Qld. and captions that come and go. Common denominator seems to be the change to DST.

Yeah, I'd expect all the transmitters in QLD to be broadcasting the same timezone information.

Yes I seem to all of a sudden have both issues. I’ve never had an issue with either the time or captions until just recently and I’ve had the box for over 2 years!

Yes..  I have all the right times on my live free to air xhannels on the TTV's and my TV's directly..  

 

Does the firmware in the TTV's actually decode the time and massage it for display?

They get UTC time from the internet.

Timezone data is stored in the firmware, but updates to it come from DVB.

The timezone data in the firmware is correct - no DST in QLD.

I'm curious to know whether everyone who is having the problem is in South East Queensland, or whether the problem is occurring in other parts of the State as well? Could be a localised server issue if they are all in the same area.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

So has the issue been resolved? Is there something I need to do? Curious how this has only just become an issue when I’ve had the box over 2 years and never had an issue with either DST or closed captions. Must have come from the recent update.

Hi @RokuMalcolm, I am in SEQ and had this time issue as well. I perfomed a factory reset via the menu system and this resolved the issue. However, as others here have stated, the closed captions issue remains to be a problem.

There would appear to be a definite problem resulting from the change in daylight saving or the latest upgrade. I didn't log exactly when it started occurring. Irrespective Roku has an issue for SE Queensland at the least. How about rectifying it and lets see some solid testing going forward. We used to slam the crap out of our updates before we released them to the market as we felt we had an obligation to our clients to make their use of our products as pleasant an experience as possible. The pleasantness of having to continually turn off CC and have the time out of whack is far gone. Appreciate all the comments along the way although none of us really care except for the final one that says "ISSUE RESOLVED".

Mine is a 4701TL set to QLD but displaying 1 hr ahead.

@RokuMalcolm  Is anything actually being done to fix this issue? My qld time is still incorrect and I am now turning off closed captions at least 3 times a day. It has gone very quiet here aside from everyone still expressing their frustration in these issues not being resolved. If your position is that the firmware is correct and there is no issue, are the TTV boxes that still have an issue going to be replaced? What is the permanent resolution to this issue?

The hardware is not faulty, so does not need to be replaced.

The firmware will be updated if needed.

I'm not going to give status updates.

So does that mean we just live with the incorrect time and stupid closed captions appearing until an update to the firmware is provided? Is anyone actually looking into an update for it? Can we undo the latest update that potentially caused this? Even my FTA TV stations display the wrong time through the box. I’m ready to remove the aerial from my TTV and plug it back into my TV until this is resolved.

That is really disconcerting that a senior engineer would make a statement such as “I am not going to give status updates” when the issue is quite evidently a software engineers screw up by releasing an upgrade that wasn’t tested for the entire user base and introduced a **bleep**ty bug. We could all live with the time being incorrect till rectified even though it is annoying. We shouldn’t have to live with software not holding the off state for closed captions. Own the problem, give people an update when it will be rectified and do a better job next time. I am sure the Telstra partner managers are overjoyed with the knowledge that people think their service is **bleep**.

Telstra and Roku are aware of this timezone issue and we are not ignoring it.

Firmware updates are tested by Roku, Telstra, Telstra's channel partners, and a group of beta testers.

The closed captions issue has been resolved by Telstra.

Appreciate your prompt response and I am sure all users affected by the bugs will be happy for the update and that Roku, Telstra, Telstra panel partners and beta testers do test the software. They just had a brain fart and forgot there is such a thing as daylight savings time. Glad you are onto it though and I only speak for myself when I say I look forward to the post that says “we fixed it”. In the meantime have a great weekend. 

watching not Telstra TV tonight so will check the CC tomorrow.

Thank you, you didn’t actually say when the time side will be fixed, it’s been a week since the issue was raised, surely the experts have sorted it by now. I hope it isn’t an issue of it’s only affecting QLD so not urgent!

@Julzey can you plug your aerial back into your TV and check to see what times display? You could be receiving NSW programming from your local tower if it's near the NSW border.

 

In the past, issues with timezone problems (which have almost exclusively occurred in SE QLD) have been to do with the node that your internet connection passes through, rather than firmware problems with devices. If your IP address is picked up as being allocated to a NSW connection, then you will have problems with the time (and occasionally programs) that is displayed.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

The Automatic timezone setting selects a timezone from the IP address.

This issue affects customers with both Automatic and Manual selection of timezone.

When manually selecting the timezone, the time shown for QLD is incorrect.

I’m nowhere near the NSW border and my TV has the correct timing; it’s the TTV that is wrong. That’s why RokuMalcolm is commenting.

Sad to say I CC on all three of my Roku is still turning on. Set it to off and all good. Next time I turn the live TV on CC sets itself to on. Checked firmware and still the same version so not sure how Telstra has fixed it if it is the Roku box that is not retaining the off state. 

all I can say is thank god for other options. Although I do thank Telstra and Roku for their initiative of providing a system that doesn’t hold its state so we can all improve our reading skills. 😂

The CC issue is fixed in version 2.41 of Telstra's home screen app.

The device automatically checks for updates every 24 hours.

You can manually check for app updates in System settings.

Telstra's home screen app doesn't appear in My Apps, so it's not easy to check its version number.

Any progress with the daylight savings time fix for QLD?

I have been reading through the thread and not progressed for a week.

I live in SEQ and have got the same clock issue. Had CC issue and now gone away. When I check for software update it says last update 27/08/21.

We are all waiting patiently for the Roku muppets to work out what they screwed up. Ironic how all other systems I am using automatically adjusted. 

on a side not the CC issue came back. I now have the pleasure of having to turn them off yet again each time you turn the system on. Big thumbs up to Telstra for their interest in my reading skills.

It’s getting a bit ridiculous now. If they can break it with an update and so many people have confirmed it’s an issue and we are all in SE QLD, then why can’t they fix it with an update?

It's gone way past ridiculous. It's like the Mel Brooks movie Spaceballs. Ludicrous. How difficult can it be. I don't have facebook, but that seems to be the place to go to get things done these days. Crowd Support seems a waste of time. Get on facebook and can the sh... out of Telstra TV because of this time issue and see what happens.
