Following a 10 day outage of Foxtel and Broadband internet affecting a large area I have been subjected to bogus operators speaking with an Indian Accent trying to scam me with tech support. I understand that Telstra use a Phillpino based call centre. I am really concerned that Telstra confidentiality has been breached. This has occurred frequently. What is Telstra doing about it?

There are many scammers who make those calls claiming to be from Telstra, typically the scammers don’t have access to any actual information and usually only make the claim to represent one of the bigger companies because it is a higher chance they will get a match.

They typically don’t have any information and just guess if anything, they typically have no information at all. If you say you are with another company or the like they have no idea and usually hang up.

If you feel that your privacy has been breached then Telstra do have a privacy team you can speak to about it.

As far as stopping the scammers, that isn’t really within any of the RSP control, you can report them to ScamWatch if you have any of their details and the Govt depts do their job to control it but mostly it isn’t something they can easily stop.
