Sony Xperia Z and Xperia Z1  - Jellybean 4.3 update has been withdrawn

Unfortunately Sony have retracted the Android Jellybean 4.3 updates for the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia Z1. Telstra tested and approved these updates in January and they were due to begin deployment 7th February. The updates were withdrawn due to issues identified in other markets by Sony .

The Jellybean 4.3 update now won’t be released for Telstra Xperia Z and Z1 handsets. Instead,  Sony will move straight to Android KitKat 4.4 for both devices. Sony have not provided dates for when these updates will be available for testing yet but it is expected to be soon. Once the dates are known I  will publish them on this forum.

Hi Craig! What about HTC 8X. It was supposed to be approved by Telstra on 03.02.2014. However, in today's update you are still showing it under testing. "In Final Stages of Testing" for past three weeks doesn't make any sense. Seems availability date of 17.02.2014 will be shifting further.

i agree with you David_0011 , it seems that Telstra does not care about updating the GTI9305T , when it looks to me that there are a large number of Australian's using these devices

What about the GTI9305T, how many telstra customers have this handset and we always get totally ignored. This is not good enough Telstra, get your act together and look after your customers. NOT HAPPY

Well, looks like I'll never get a device on a Telstra contract ever again.

I'd even be happy if there was a 'still evaluating whether to update' post. Or a 'no, we're not going to update' message. But there is zip. Zilch. Nada. Terrible way to conduct interbusiness communications.

This was the first time in around ten years I've used a Telstra phone on a plan instead of owning a device outright. Figured I've give 'em a go again after the monopoly practicses of ADSL cabinet access drove me away from using the company all those years ago.

Fool me twice....

Does anyone read these forums except for very disappointed GTI9305T customers.

Many posts over the last few months and more.. Not one real post on whats going on with the GTI9305T. Surely someone from Telstra has seen these posts...

Can we get someone from Telstra to explain why they are not listing the GTI9305T in the update list and give us a real update.!!

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

Craig,

Those of us who have the Sony Xperia Z (C6603) (and Xperia Z1- C6903) are now disappointed regarding the last minute withdrawl of the proposed update 4.3 (and associated software 10.4.1.B.0.101).

Please exlain why it is that when I use my phone to search for the 'Latest available software' (under ), the Sony 'Xperia care' page lists:

Android version: Google Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Latest available software: 10.4.1.B.0.101

Release started: 2014-02-07

To add more disappointment, why have both Vodafone and Optus released (late December and January, respectively) the latest 4.3 for this model on both of their networks?

Does this mean that there will be problems for those users, and that the update will be reversed on these networks - I am guessing not?

Why then does this update only have a problem on the Telstra network?

What confidence can we have that the Android 4.4 KitKat will be successful for Sony Xperia Z on the Telstra network?

And just how long will we have to wait for this?

I look forward to your detailed response.

Thanks.

I spoke to some one in Telstra a few days ago, telling me that the S3 LTE or the Samsung S3 GTI9305T won't have an update in the foreseeable future!!!!!!!!!!

So much for Android 4.2.2 as it was to be the steping stone for 4.3.2, as there has been another glitch with a Telstra only spec LTE phone.

It will be stuck on 4.1.2.

In other words, it has been put in the to hard basket, because it was another Telstra only mode, "T" for Telstral!!!

Treated the same as the Samsung S2 LTE. Its now old and out dated before the warranty runs out.

SO DON"T HOLD YOUR BREATH!!!!!

As it will be quietly swept under the carpet!

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

This is ridiculous.. why is the i9305T missing from the update list, not even waiting for update to be received.

I purchased this phone with Telstra in good faith that it would be supported with software updates for the first few years, why is it that the dated standand S3 i9300 has 4.3 under test yet the newer LTE version is being ignored!

Disappionted S3 i9305T customer.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

Actually there is a strong rumour Telstra will be the first company in the world to have KitKat available for its Galaxy 3S 4G customers and we will therefore skip 4.3.2.  To be honest one would expect nothing less when you are connected to the world's most celebrated 4G network.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

I wouldn't hold your breath on that, highly unlikely to happen. What I am finding equally alarming is the fact the S4 Cat4 is still waiting for 4.3! Sammy has started pushing 4.4.2 to that phone in international markets!! Sammy Australia seems to be the masters of dragging their heels. I guess is my own fault though, I came from the disaster that was the Galaxy Nexus (great phone though) and jumped on board recently with the S4 Cat4. However, I can wait since even stuck on 4.2.2 the phone is very impressive! and I'm actually very happy with it. At this stage any additional updates would be just gravy.

If that is true then the Telstra support staff wouldn't be commenting that there will be no further S3 updates

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

H'm.. Not sure about the accuracy of that there list, I got 4.3 on my S4 in December last year when I joined telstra (cos I got sick of no signal on Vodafone)! I bought my S4 outright, not locked into any provider, maybe that had something to do with it? I haven't noticed much difference to be honest, I do user a Nova launcher so can't comment on the skin.. Wi-Fi is a bit dodgy since update though I must say...

I9305T updates

[ Edited ]

Typical of Telstra. Charge us late fees when we don't pay our bills on time but they are bot providing a timely service when it comes to updates for the I9305T. This reaks of Telstra wanting everyone to upgrade but discontinuing support for this model phone.  Looks like it might be time to take matters into my own hands and update with a non branded rom so updates come in a timely fashion.

All I have to say in the end is I am sadly disappointed by the service in this matter but I will not be wasting my breath ringing the complaint line because it seems to fall on deaf ears.

I now challenge Telstra to prove what I have said wrong and will gladly retract my statment if things move along but I think I will be safe.

I9506.

Kit Kat is being passed around in Korea - hence the upgrade to 4.3 is a bit bleh to me....

UNLESS.....

Do we know wether this update will at least enable the Commonwealth Bank Tap & Pay to work?

That certainly is a nice convenient way try to distract those who are annoyed at Telstra's apparent refusal to update the I9305T and their clear refusal to respond to any request for information about why said update is delayed/not happening. The landscape of official comment from Telstra is a barren wasteland with just the occasional tumbleweed blowing across an otherwise parched, sterile desert.

They have to make a profit somehow and that seems, from my perspective anyway, to be done by way of not supporting the phones they sell, hoping that people will rush out and buy a new phone that will likewise not be supported in a year or two.

I would advise you not to hold your brath on that score. The money is in the corproate account so there is now no need to respond to customer questions.

I know one thing for sure. I certainly won't be buying a Telstra branded anything from now on.

Re: I9305T updates

Telstra won't tell you anything to any one even if a release was days away, like getting blood out of a stone!

They keep getting stuck with their own LTE versions such as the S2 and now the S3. They don't even have an FM radio in these models, as the phone looks for it when you turn the phone on, as it was removed from the Telstra design (they won't tell you that) to make room for the 4G LTE board. If the Telstra LTE frequency was used world wide, it would be a standard frequency that would allow the return of the FM tuner and a generic Android 4.4.2 plus blot-ware on the forth coming S5, that's now only weeks away!!

They abandoned the S2 LTE, (they let me off my plan,) good as again stuck with the S3 LTE (now a much better phone, you think that they would learn) now they will forget those customers, as they are now on to the S5!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They can't shut us up as there isn't any forth coming Android 4.3.2 or 4.4.2 for the S3 LTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote "Not in the near future"

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SO we will just have to keep on gripeing about the stuff up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I use my S3 for work, using the Apps daily and the Apps go out of date and as the Apps update, as they will in time, they will then only work on 4.4.2, then I'm stuffed, using a phone that's about to go out of warranty and out of date at the same time and I'm still stuck with it for another 12 months as well!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

Sorry to be rude but a lot of you need to take a breath from your self righteous rage and get a clue.

1. 9305T does not stand for Telstra. It designates a 9305 with the 850MHz 3G frequency added. Unbranded Australian Galaxy S3 4Gs are also 9305Ts so that they can be used on Telstra. 9305Ts are also sold in Brazil.

2. Carriers can only update their branded software once the handset manufacturer (in this case Samsung) releases the updated unbranded software. Telstra can't "work on it" until Samsung gives them something to work on.

3. Samsung has not released Android 4.3 for any 9305Ts:

http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=GT-I9305T

http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/

In short, other than possibly pressuring Samsung to hurry up on their end there's nothing Telstra can do about it. Although I do find it amusing that the Telstra staff here don't even understand the process enough to identify the source of the delay for their customers.

Well Samsung does seem to have more models and variants than it can support properly so it does have to bear at least part of the blame. However Telstra must have sold a stack of GT-I9305T phones and it has an obligation to put pressure on Samsung to come up with firmware upgrades. I know a number of 9305T owners who purchased a Galaxy Gear after receiving an assurance from Telstra staff that their phones would receive 4.3 upgrades by the end of 2013 and they are all understandably underwhelmed with Telstra support. The biggest problem here is that Telstra sfaff don't appear to know about the differences between a 9300 and a 9305 and that suggests a lack of staff training.

While I like Samsung hardware I am going to stay away from their phones in future. I have a Nexus 5 on order from the Google store and, when my current contract with Telstra runs out in a few months, I will shop around for the best BYO plan at the time. My current thinking is that I will use the GT-I9305 as a Google maps device with a cheap local SIM when I go overseas.

My best guest(s) on the delay of 8x GDR3:
1. Recent redundancy/lay-offs
2. Additional HTC firmware's to test - the recent GDR2 has no firmware updates at all
3. WP is just not on their top priority list

I do have the Update 3, I was able to install it via the Developer preview but I really wanted to install the Update 3 from Telstra. If ever WP8.1 will be released for 8X, i think I will get it faster via dev preview. I doubt that Telstra will continue to support 8X by then.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 7/02/2014

The GDR3 update for the 8X is now available, that's close enough the 17th that people shouldn't really be whinging. If you did not get the GDR2 update a couple of weeks ago, you will get that first, and should check for updates again once that is finished. In saying that, the GDR3 update includes a HTC firmware update as well, be patient, the updates never roll out all at once, they are usually staggered.

For me, the best new 'feature' for the HTC 8x with GDR3 is screen rotate lock. A small list of changes is here http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp8/basics/windows-phone-8-update-history we now get everything from update 2 and 3.

Word has it the S4 Cat4 update will be delayed due to techical issues found in the update* and Sammy (US) just released the official list for what phones are getting KitKat, guess what the S4 Cat4 isn't on that list (neither is the S3 4G) but both the vanilla S3 and S4 are due for the update. Once again getting screwed over! can't say I am too happy right now. I mean I know I've said I'm verry happy with my S4 Cat4 and I am! but still annoying to know the phone is getting abandoned so early on while the older models will continue to recieve updates...

* = take with grain of salt.

Re: Handset Software Updates

Any further word on the Galaxy S4 CAT4 (I9506)?

I purchashed this phone thinking it would be more advanced than the standard S4. I wouldn't have bothered if I knew the updates would be so far behind the standard S4 :smileysad:

Thanks for the update. Notice alot of people waiting for updates. I have not had any problems getting updates for my phones. I don't have any Android phones (Only WP, Nokia Lumia 920, 1020 & 520) so maybe that is the reason.

I am only waiting on the update for the 520, but that is being deployed on 3/3/14. Expected it to be last to get the update as it is a budget handset, but I am still getting it. :smileyvery-happy:

<edit> I just received the update on the Lumia 520, a week early :smileyvery-happy:
